Everybody dies

It must be the new thing in children's literature. First, J.K. Rowling warns us to expect two deaths in the final installment of the Harry Potter series.

Now, Lemony Snicket--who has had no shortage of deaths in his Series of Unfortunate Events so far--is warning us in a Newsweek article that there will be two deaths in his The End, coming out on Oct. 13.

No one need worry about young readers being overprotected. Nor am I going to start raving about "the good ol' days" as I still have a well-worn copy of Bridge to Terabithia.
